When we think of men’s jewelry , two thoughts usually come to mind:
Engagement rings/curb chains,
That is an image that is too formal/official, or too feminine. Two reasons why, in fine, the use of jewelry by men is very rare.
This is their advantage, however: they then become the final touch that very few dares, this detail that can make the difference, which allows you to assert your personality and individuality in a subtle way.
Let’s break down the psychological barriers from the start: jewelry (necklaces, rings or bracelets for men) can be incorporated into all styles, whether they are casual or more formal. The main thing is to choose them well and incorporate them appropriately.
HOW TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT JEWELRY FOR MEN?
There are three criteria to take into account when buying a piece of jewelry, the three being inseparable.
Quality: the jewel being a “style bonus”, it must follow a few quality standards. Depending on your finances, you may prefer gold or silver men’s jewelry, but common metals are still a very acceptable solution (leather and experimental materials are too).
The design: this will remain with the appreciation of each one, but the style of the jewel, whether it is of ethnic, rock, dark or hippie inspiration, will be very important.
Uniqueness: the unique jewel that no one else (or almost) wears. The rarity, the real one.
- WHAT ABOUT INEXPENSIVE MEN’S JEWELRY?
Fast fashion brands often do not meet any of these three criteria. The quality is at the bottom of the scale, the design is often banal (to please everyone), and as for the ‘uniqueness … I’ll let you guess.
Be careful, the entry-level is despite everything an interesting gateway to the world of jewelry, by its low involvement (especially budget). It is above all a good way to find the style that we like!
Once your style is more defined, focus on designers with a successful jewelry offering; both in terms of quality and design, even, if your purse allows it, the jewelers themselves.
- A JEWEL IS FOR LIFE (AT LEAST)
Think of buying a piece of jewelry as an investment. Assume that you will keep it for a long time, that in ten years you will still wear it around your neck (or wrist/finger). And, I repeat, being only “the finishing touch”, take your time to choose it.
The interchangeable / disposable is of little interest at this level. Buying in quantity for the benefit of quality, and changing it every two days, will send a message to the people around you: “I am precious” .
Wearing the same piece of jewelry for a certain period of time will result in a distinctly different message: “I have a story, a personality. This accessory is my signature ”.
It is therefore worth spending a little: you will make the purchase more profitable over time.
- MEN’S JEWELRY IN GOLD OR SILVER?
It is generally accepted that gold is better for dark skin. On the other hand, silver, white gold and platinum will go very well on paler skin types. After that, nothing prevents you from deviating from this convention if the jewel has a strong sentimental value.
SOME BRANDS OF MEN’S JEWELRY
The choice of jewelry is very wide. This is both an advantage and a disadvantage because it is difficult to navigate.
Here is a small selection of personal men’s jewelry , including rings, bracelets and necklaces. It will be varied and, the goal being to make you discover new things, certainly unusual in your eyes (they reflect my tastes and my personality, it’s up to you to find what sticks to yours).
- MAISON MARGIELA
Its line of jewelry and accessories is one of the most successful in high-end men’s ready-to-wear. The creations are conceptual, daring, even subversive, but always of quality.
The creations of this House are very different from Margiela. The jewels are often massive, precious, racy and absolutely unique (production being very limited).
Each season brings a different approach (ethnic, baroque, futuristic inspirations …).
Here is a small selection of pieces from the Spring-Summer 2011 show, a particularly striking old collection.
- DIOR HOMME
Youth and rock are the credo of this French House. There you will find leather bracelets, Union Jack necklaces or massive rings. The designs have a lot of connotations and will be perfect for any self-respecting Mick Jagger fan.
- ROBERT GELLER
Label with a very cultural approach, it borrows its aesthetic from little-known folklore and subcultures from various regions of the world.
“Ethnic” will say some, but not in the classic sense of the term (no Maasai symbols or tribal motifs belonging to mass culture today, but Croatian religious festivals, civil wars in Eastern Europe or even the youth Californian).
- CHRONICLES OF NEVER
Their creations, whether in clothes or accessories, are based on strict geometric shapes.
It’s a Japanese label very heavily influenced by the grunge and punk aesthetic. His creations are unique and will make you change your mind: “punk” and “beautiful” can be compatible.
It is a brand discovered a little by chance, unearthed by Benoît Carpentier of Marchand Drapier.
You should know that initially, I was not at all a fan of bracelets, but I wanted to get caught up in the game with these multiple colored models in semi-precious stones, characteristic of the brand.
And as you could see in all the videos and photos, from day one they never left me, which is a pretty good sign!
Very seriously, I have bathed and showered with it (more than once) and they hold up. Moreover, Catherine Michiels encourages her customers to never take off her bracelets, so that they are truly part of you.
More concretely, I really appreciate the ingenious and very simple closure system that adapts to all wrists, and the variety of shades of colors of the stones used. I love them so much that, in addition to my six bracelets that I wear together, I am considering adding one or two more …
In more accessible alternatives, think of Orner and Caputo .
In the kind of hidden but very high-end accessory brand, Anonyme Paris is doing very well, offering small leather goods with simply perfect finishes.
After he introduced it to me in detail, I just loved it. A very simple design, but with perfect proportions, and with a triangular shape that adds a super twist. Simple, but very beautiful, you had to think about it:
While waiting for the BonneGueule article, Jamais Vulgaire has made a very good report.
In addition to accessible, you also have Orner (again them) and Ursul .
Harpo jewelry is distinguished by its very roots, very vintage American side. We quickly recognize a Harpo jewelry with its turquoises, usually encased in an aged silver ring.
The motifs represent Native American heads that evoke the conquest of the West.
Etsy is simply a marketplace that lists designers of handmade jewelry. You will find objects from all over the world, impossible not to find the necklace or the ring of your dreams or corresponding to the desire of the moment.
HANDCRAFTED MEN’S JEWELRY
Exactly, the best for the end. The authentic. The handmade jewel brought back from a trip, which cost nothing but is loaded with real value: your memories.
