Chhattisgarh will auction around 16 mines in the coming months. The coal-bearing state is likely to provide humongous job opportunities. Private entities like Hindalco, Sarda Energy, Adani Group Chhattisgarh have already been immensely contributing to the coal sector.

In a virtual meeting with Union Coal and Mines Minister Pralhad Joshi, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister, Bhupesh Baghel, assured the Centre that it will auction more than 16 coal blocks over the next two months. Joshi applauded Chhattisgarh for becoming the first state in India to take an initiative for the auction of mineral blocks as per the instructions of the Government of India.

The Coal minister also urged the CM to promptly operationalise the recently auctioned commercial coal blocks in order to boost mineral production and generate more employment opportunities across the region.

Bolstering the sector, private entities are also collaboratively working with the government to harness the untapped potential of the sector. Many have started their operations after winning a number of coal projects by the ministry.

Adani Group in Chhattisgarh began integrated MDO operations at Parsa East-Kente Basan mine that has over 450 MT of coal reserves. It was the first MDO contract of the company.

The block was awarded to RRVUNL in 2007 and it issued a tender seeking MDO services, which was bagged by Adani group mining Chhattisgarh. Apart from this, the GPIICPL, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Adani Enterprises recently signed a pact with MAHAGENCO to develop and operate Gare Palma Sector II coal mine in Chhattisgarh.

Adding to the revenue of the state, Sarda Energy and Minerals Ltd placed the winning bid for the Gare Palma IV/7 coal mine in Chhattisgarh. It quoted the highest revenue share of 66.75% for the mine having a total geological reserve of 234.205 million tonnes.

India’s coal requirement is expected to reach up to 1123 million tonnes (mt) by 2023. To increase domestic production, the government had announced different tranches of coal mines auction and it received tremendous response from the bidders.
